Speaker 1: ZHANG Wenjing

Topic: An empirical study of child sexual abuse prevention with young children in China

About the Talk

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a worldwide concern and it is an insidious and persistent problem in the society. CSA can often result in an array of physical and mental difficulties for child victims. Thus, prevention and intervention efforts should be developed early. However, CSA primary prevention in China starts relatively late, and there is little research with young children aged 3-5 years. The current study is the first to explore the level of CSA prevention knowledge and personal self-protection skills of Chinese young children, and to evaluate the effectiveness of a sexual abuse prevention education in Beijing, China. This study will provide the practical evidence for further development of universal CSA prevention programs in China.

Topic: Dynamics and Patterns of Social Policy Agenda Setting in China

About the Talk

Agenda setting refers to a governmental process of prioritizing public issues according to their significance and urgency. Since the weights of requests for policy debates usually go beyond the processing capacities of government,  the issues must complete for being taken by agenda setting. Taking the New Rural Cooperative Scheme policy as a case, this study aims to investigate the agenda setting mechanism in policy-making of China.
