Driven by Dreams, Cherish Good Times. On the afternoon of August 30, 2023, SSDPP (Zhuhai Campus) held the opening ceremony and enrollment education activities for the 2023 freshmen through online and offline meetings. Tian Donghua, Secretary of the General Party Branch of SSDPP, such teachers as Xu Yuebin, Jin Chenggang, Fu Yuanyuan, Gao Jiamin and Xiao Shuzhen, Teacher Liu Danqing from Student Affairs Division, Secretary of the General Youth League Branch and Party Affairs Shen Haotong, Chen Lan from MSW Dean’s Office, Freshmen Class Teacher Wang Shihui from MSW Student Affairs Division, Teacher He Zhifeng from Health and Social Policy Research Center, Teacher Wu Qinglu, Teacher Xiang Yu, Teacher Du Hongfei, as well as all the MSW freshmen and all the new Ph.D candidates majoring in public administration were present at the event. Freshmen Gao Yahan and Jiang Shuxin from SSDPP presided over the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, all the participating teachers and students took a group photo to show the spirit of the freshmen.

At 3:00 pm, the Opening Ceremony and Entrance Education for the 2023 Freshmen of SSDPP (Zhuhai Campus) was officially held at Reporting Hall B203 of Lijiao Building. Freshmen Gao Yahan and Jiang Shuxin presided over the event.

Xie Jiali, a representative of the master's program in social work enrolled in 2022, delivered a speech on behalf of current students, sharing her thoughts and achievements in professional learning. She encouraged the freshmen to continuously maintain a positive attitude and a focused learning attitude, conduct in-depth research and academic exploration with a persistent learning motivation and high research enthusiasm. She also shared her favorite poem: "When I Started Loving Myself" by Charles Chaplin.

Liu Wanyi, a student from the 2023 Master's Class in Social Work, delivered a speech on behalf of the freshmen. She has gradually fallen into love with Beijing Normal University since her first day at the campus. As postgraduates in social work, she said, we should have a sincere love for our major, which is a kind of science, art, and helping others. Finally, she wished everyone a brand new and exciting postgraduate life.

Teachers Fu Yuanyuan, Gao Jiamin, and Liu Danqing from Students’ Affairs Division of SSDPP delivered speeches online to welcome the freshmen, hoping they would have a better understanding of themselves, their interests and hobbies, clarify their life direction, and cultivate healthy lifestyle during their graduate studies. Despite the long distance from the headquarters, we share a common home called SSDPP. Finally, we wish the freshmen a fulfilling graduate time!

Relevant teachers of SSDPP, such as Xu Yuebin, Jin Chenggang, Du Hongfei and He Zhifeng, Associate Researcher Wu Qinglu, and Teacher Xiang Yu respectively delivered speeches to the freshmen. Teacher Xu Yuebin affirmed the students who graduated from SSDPP, hoping that everyone would maintain a good learning atmosphere and communicate with the teachers more frequently. Teacher Jin Chenggang encouraged the younger generation to learn professional knowledge and systematically view and solve problems by carefully studying social issues. Teacher Du Hongfei has great expectations for the freshmen, hoping they’ll cherish the graduate time.

Teacher He Zhifeng shared his experience of going to the community and society through reading and practice, and finding interesting research issues. Teacher Wu Qinglu introduced his research direction and shared three theories with the participants. Teacher Xiang Yu shared his views on learning social work, stating that it is necessary to cultivate the imagination of social work, including not only the imagination of professional theories but also the imagination of professional methods. At the same time, we should, he stated, strengthen our internal ability and lay a solid foundation in writing.

Mr. Tian Donghua, Secretary of the General Party Branch of SSDPP, made a concluding speech, extending warm welcome to the MSW freshmen. He introduced the development of the Zhuhai Campus and made clear the essence of social work, which is the doctor of society. The future development trend of social work is, he said, bright. Tian has high expectations for all students, encouraging the freshmen to eat well and learn well in their graduate studies, be firm in their choices, make progress and breakthroughs, cherish the two years of study time, and love themselves and life during that period.

After all leaders left, Mai Qidian, a MSW freshmen played the guitar and sang the song "Wide Sea and Sky" with a rich voice, winning thunderous applause!

In the session of freshmen education, Ms Chen Lan made a detailed introduction to MSW cultivation mode and plan. Teacher Xiao Shuzhen introduced the MSW internship arrangement, emphasizing the importance and requirements of the internship, and encouraging us to learn through practice and tap new knowledge through practice.

We arrived at the venue half an hour ahead of schedule, arranged the meeting site, posted banners and seat lists, and checked the microphones and projection effects, contributing to the opening ceremony.
