At 9:30 a.m. on December 11, 2019, the first lecture salon of SSDPP's Life Guidance Service Room was held at Meeting Room 2026 of Rear Main Building, BNU. At the beginning, Mr. Tang Xiaofeng solemnly introduced the speaker of the lecture salon: Associate Researcher Xia Cuicui, who is a full-time teacher of the student psychological consultation and service center and a part-time supervisor of the psychological health service center of the Department of Psychology, BNU. As a member of the Chinese Psychological Society, Xia is a registered psychologist and a registered member of the Chinese Erickson Institute, and has rich experience in mental health care of college students after nearly 15 years' work in this field. With the theme of "how to manage the anxiety and procrastination in learning", Xia brought us a vivid, lively, wonderful and in-depth lecture salon and guided the students to properly deal with the anxiety and procrastination in learning.

Teacher Xia first launched a small warm-up to get to know everyone and encouraged the students to share their understanding of procrastination and anxiety. The students told their respective stories: they failed to pass exams or complete papers, they've made many project plans but have them half implemented...

Xia further interacted with the students and asked them to draw what they thought were anxiety and procrastination.

After that, Teacher Xia asked us four questions: what will happen if people procrastinate? What will happen if people don't delay? What will happen if people worry? And what will happen if people don't worry?

Xia said: "over the past three decades, the incidence of anxiety, depression and schizophrenia has changed. Little change has take place to the incidence of schizophrenia, but the incidence of anxiety and depression has increased dozens of times. Anxiety is the product of social development. When people's psychological changes cannot adapt to social development, people will have problems.

Procrastination is not a disease. It helps avoid unnecessary work, saves energy, makes it possible for people to enjoy a slow pace of life, makes the greatest creativity, and shows intelligence. We should accept ourselves and bravely face the fact that we are not perfect.

Now, Teacher Xia explained the essence of anxiety: "anxiety plays the role of consciousness detection and information reporting as a "sentinel", especially dangerous information. It also participates in "combat". In addition, anxiety plays the role of messenger and transmits information and demands - this matter is very important and you need to pay attention to it!"

Then, how should we cope with procrastination and anxiety? Xia believes that:

"If your schedule is empty, what you need to do is not time management, but to find things you really like.

“If your schedule is full, you need to learn how to arrange your time properly. You should manage your time according to the importance and urgency of matters, and give priority to the most important thing.

Respect the ups and downs of our emotions...

"Overcome perfectionism. The key to overcome procrastination is to bravely face the fact that we are not perfect ...

"Give yourself a DDL. What can I do without DDL? Make one or make friends with people who don't delay...

"Enhance the ability of action. Action is the best solution...

"Turn your attention back to the things that make you anxious...

"Five-minute starting method. I'll do it for five minutes first..."

At the end of the lecture, Teacher Xia interacted with the students. The students communicated with Xia about the unsolved problems and shared what they had learned from the lecture.
