A Series of Lectures on Career Exploration for Public Welfare School of Social Development and Public Policy, Beijing Normal University



 

 

On November 19, 2020, a series of lectures on career exploration for public welfare sponsored by the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) of Beijing Normal University and supported by the "Hanpeng Action" Program of Dunhe Foundation came to a successful conclusion at B201, Liyun Building, Zhuhai Campus of Beijing Normal University. Representatives of social organizations, government departments and enterprises from Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou were invited to deliver lectures on three topics: the function and positioning of public welfare hub platform, the development and implementation of diversified public welfare projects for healthy elderly care, and the incubation and innovation of public welfare organizations. Many teachers of SSDPP in Zhuhai and 100 postgraduate students for a master's degree of social work participated in the activity.

 

 

 

 

The meeting was presided over by Wang Fangping, the internship supervisor of SSDPP, Beijing Normal University. Fu Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the Social Work Committee, delivered a welcome speech. Fu expressed her gratitude to the participating institutions for their support to SSDPP, and pointed out that the Pearl River Delta region is a relatively mature area for the development of public welfare and charity in China. SSDPP will, she said, take root in the Guangdong - HongKong- Macao Greater Bay Area and cultivate a large number of university students dedicated to the field of public welfare and charity.

 

 

 

Session 1: The function and orientation of public welfare hub platform

 

As an important sub-district hub social organization in Zhuhai City, Shishan Dianjing has taken serving community-based public welfare organizations, integrating communities' public welfare resources and guiding and supporting the development of public welfare organizations as its main development philosophy since its establishment. By providing social organization capacity-building, consulting and counseling, resource linking and service evaluation services, it has accelerated the development and upgrading of social public welfare organizations, and promoted the governance of charity and public welfare and service innovation. Ms. Yang Ying, Director General of Shishan Dianjing, said that she welcomed the students of SSDPP to become the public welfare partners of the hub organization, actively participate in the cultivation of community-based public welfare organizations, and contribute to the field of grassroots charity.

 

 

Gongbei Sub-district, as an important window for Zhuhai to connect with Macao, is adjacent to Macao and connected with Hong Kong and Macao highroads and bridges. It is the intersection of "one country, two systems". Ms. Xue Lili, member of the Party Working Committee of Gongbei Sub-district, introduced that Gongbei Sub-district, as an innovation base of social governance in Zhuhai, has created a number of excellent public welfare projects and volunteer service brands by incubating social public welfare organizations, establishing community public welfare funds and providing public welfare venture capital. Through the innovative practice of community public welfare, the community secretaries of Gongbei Sub-district provide a variety of possibilities for the students of grassroots community public welfare colleges and universities to play a role, and provide some practical posts for SSDPP's students to apply their professional theoretical knowledge to practice.

 

 

 

Session 2: promoting the development and implementation of diversified public welfare projects for healthy elderly care

 

China has entered a stage of rapid aging of population. In Zhuhai, an important pension city in China, a number of institutions dedicated to healthy elderly care have emerged.

 

Ms. Yang Hongcui, Chairwoman of Xinyi Social Work Service Center of Doumen District, introduced the establishment of Xinyi Volunteer Service Team and its link with various social resources, as well as the estabilshment of a long-term mechanism for young volunteers to participate in elderly care services so as to provide opportunities and conditions for a large number of rural poor elderly people in Doumen District to enjoy their old age. At the same time, she introduced her career planning method for public welfare, and shared her sense of significance and value gained from her years of involvement in public welfare.

 

 

 

As a leading elderly care service enterprise in Guangdong Province, Aoyuan Healthy Life Group took the lead in setting up a rsearch center for elderly care in the province. As a bridge linking industries, universities and research, the center is committed to providing diversified health care services for the elderly based on scientific research. Mr. Li Weiqiang, Recruitment Director of Human Resources Department of the Group, called for more social work professionals to participate in the elderly health promotion projects.

 

 

 

Session 3: The incubation and innovation of public welfare organizations

 

Ms. Zhou Binghua, the public welfare trainer of Baidao College, shared her entrepreneurial experience and focused on introducing the innovative public welfare service forms of immersive drama experience, such as drama English and drama college, which create different scenes through dramas to stimulate children's development potential. It is a kind of innovation of the traditional methods of children's social work, providing new ideas for the practical development of children's social work.

 

 

 

Wang Xin, Project Director of NPI, shared his ten years' experience in public welfare, and introduced the vision and mission of NPI as a national large-scale and systematic social organization. As an incubator of public welfare organizations, NPI has innovated the traditional public welfare resources and activities in practice, and created such public welfare brands as NPI Foundation, NPI Venture Capital and NPI University. Director Wang Xin welcomed the students of SSDPP to NPI as NPI's partners to explore innovative forms of public welfare together.

 

 

 

By organizing the lecturing on public welfare career exploration, we helped the MSW students develop a good understanding of public welfare, solve their dislocation, improve themselves, and become more active in participating in public welfare undertakings. SSDPP has also established further cooperative relations with the institutions present today and reached in-depth consensus with them on talent cultivation.
